The 2025
Chrome, Edge, Atlas & More. Configure your stack for the AI era.
You don't need to “marry” an AI browser. You need a stack: one stable browser plus one AI-native browser used intentionally. This playbook helps you select the right mix for Mac and Windows, configure them to work cleanly with Google Workspace and Microsoft 365, and decide where AI lives.
Four principles for designing
your browser stack
Ecosystem Alignment
Use Chrome where Gemini and Google Workspace are central. Use Edge where Microsoft 365, Teams, and SharePoint dominate. Match the browser to where your work actually lives.
Division of Roles
One browser as your “system of record” (stable, predictable). One browser as your “AI cockpit” (analysis, drafting, research). Don't mix them.
Governance
Clear rules on which browser handles banking and compliance tasks. Clear rules on where AI is allowed to see history and files. Default posture: AI browsers are opt-in, not default.
Simplicity
Better to have two understood browsers than five experiments. New AI browsers must earn their place — uninstall if they don't deliver value in 30 days.
Browser stacks by platform
and configuration playbook
| macOS — Default | Chrome for Gmail, Docs, web apps, Gemini cockpit |
| macOS — Agent | ChatGPT Atlas for “do this for me” workflows and complex sequences |
| macOS — Personal | Safari for banking, government portals, minimal tracking |
| Windows — Default | Chrome (AI lives here for Google world) |
| Windows — Co-Primary | Edge with Copilot Mode for structuring research and tab comparison |
| Windows — Research | Perplexity Comet for deep research, rabbit holes, summaries |
| Chrome Setup | Create separate Business and Personal profiles · Enable Gemini in settings · Install 1Password, ad blocker, screenshot tool |
| Edge Setup | Sign in with work Microsoft account · Activate Copilot with page-context consent · Pin Outlook/Teams as PWA apps |
| Atlas/Comet Setup | Import bookmarks · Use Agent Mode for form filling and comparison · Never log into banking here |
| Green Data (OK) | Marketing sites, public docs, published decks — safe to process with AI |
| Yellow Data (Anonymise) | Client internal docs, financials — remove names before AI use |
| Red Data (Never AI) | Banking portals, regulated client files, IDs — use Safari or standard browsers only |
